Will cervical polyps grow back after removal?

Patient's question:

I just had a cervical polypectomy. I would like to know if cervical polyps will grow back after they are removed?

Doctor's answer:

Normal growth will not continue. However, if it is not cleaned properly, the root base is not cleaned, it will grow again. The cervix may also grow again if it is infected. Keeping the vagina, cervix, and pelvic area free from infection, and regularly undergoing check-ups, are the best ways to prevent cervical polyps. Treatment methods will vary depending on the size, location, shape of the polyp, and the patient's age.
1. For larger polyps with stalks, which can be seen or felt in the lower uterus, the polyp can be removed by dilating the cervix. Then, a cervical and uterine scraping procedure should be performed to remove any remaining polyps and send them for pathological examination.
2. For small, focal, or diffuse polyps, a scraping procedure should be performed. It is important to scrape thoroughly, especially at the uterine fundus and cornua.
3. After uterine surgery, anti-infection treatment should be administered. Clinically, antibiotics can be given orally or intravenously.
4. For patients with significant bleeding symptoms, if the above methods fail to eradicate the condition or if it frequently recurs, uterine removal should be considered.
