How is the ovulation period actually calculated

Patient's question:

Do you experience vaginal dryness similar to that after menstruation just one day after ovulation? Additional question: I noticed my vagina became dry on November 6th, and my period arrived on the 19th, which is almost exactly 14 days.
Can there be more than 14-16 days from ovulation to menstruation?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, the time of ovulation and the next menstrual period is relatively fixed. Generally, menstruation occurs 14 days after ovulation, so the ovulation period is the 5 days before and 4 days after ovulation. Therefore, under regular menstrual cycles, it is possible to predict when the next menstrual period will occur, which allows for more accurate calculation of the ovulation period.
1. Observe the characteristics of cervical mucus. If the mucus resembles egg whites and can be stretched into strands, it indicates that you have entered the ovulation period. Have intercourse every other day for the next week.
2. Use an ovulation test strip to test, and follow the instructions for using the test strip to determine your ovulation period.
3. Begin undergoing transvaginal ultrasound monitoring of the follicles on the 10th day of your menstrual cycle. This is the most accurate and intuitive method for checking ovulation.
