Can you determine ovulation by measuring the temperature in your mouth?

Patient's question:

Can the temperature in the mouth be measured with a thermometer during ovulation? Do you need to measure it every day of the month?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Generally, body temperature is lower during the ovulation period, and it gradually rises after ovulation.
It is recommended to measure basal body temperature every day upon waking up before getting out of bed. Record the data daily. When you notice a sudden drop of 0.4-0.5 degrees in temperature on a particular day, that day is likely the ovulation day. On that day, plan to have sexual intercourse once, and then again the next day. This will help you not to miss the opportunity to conceive. You can also combine this with ovulation test strips or ultrasound to check for the presence of follicles, their size, and gradual growth. Generally, a mature follicle with a diameter of 20-24mm will ovulate quickly, indicating the ovulation period.
Good luck!
