How to treat congenital vaginal atresia

Patient's question:

Is there a woman without a vagina, how should this be handled?

Doctor's answer:

I. Treatment Principles
1. Indications for Surgery: All cases with a confirmed diagnosis should undergo surgical treatment.
2. Surgical Methods:
- Skin grafting for vaginal reconstruction using thick-to-medium thickness skin.
- Vaginal reconstruction using labial flaps: labial flap vaginal reconstruction.
- Vaginal reconstruction using minor labial flaps.
II. Medication Principles
1. Maintain cleanliness of the external genitalia; clean the external genitalia daily with 0.1% New Jellim.
2. Leave the urinary catheter in place until the sutures are removed.
3. Adjust the diet to primarily consist of low-fiber semi-liquid food, and take opium tincture orally to control defecation for 5–7 days.
4. Immediately insert a mold for support after suture removal, lasting for about half a year to prevent the skin graft from contracting and causing vaginal narrowing. The patient must be instructed on cleaning the external genitalia and using the mold. If necessary, two molds can be alternated.
5. Use antibiotics to prevent infection.
