Patient's question:
Medical Description: Today I am 34 weeks pregnant and had a fetal heart monitoring test. The baby is not very active and only moves after the doctor gently shakes my abdomen a few times. The fetal heart rate has been slightly high since the beginning of pregnancy, ranging between 150 and 160. The doctor asked me to take oxygen daily, but I heard from others that oxygen exposure may be harmful to the baby's vision. Could you please advise whether I should take oxygen in this case, for how long, and for how many hours each day?Past Treatment and Effect: Previously, I would take oxygen during prenatal check-ups. Now, do I need to take it every day?
Help Needed: Could you please help me assess the situation? Additionally, my 33-week ultrasound showed a biparietal diameter (BPD) of 8.3 cm. Is this size considered small? Should I receive intravenous fluids?
Doctor's answer:
The baby's head is now facing down, and this position will likely be maintained for at least 1-2 weeks. The baby's immune system is developing, and once he emerges from his mother's womb, he will be able to use his strong body to fend off those pesky germs. He may already be in this head-down position, but it's not the same as engaging in the pelvis, oh no. This position will need to be maintained for 1-2 weeks. If you're a twin mom, only one baby can maintain the head-down position, while the other might be moving around in coordination.
