Features: The National English Level Test (PETS) is a non-academic English proficiency test organized by the National Education Examination Center, aimed at the general public. PETS is a brand-new social English proficiency testing system in terms of both question types and testing format, evaluating language learners' abilities across five sections. The content covers listening, English knowledge application, reading comprehension, writing, and oral expression skills, striving to ensure that candidates can not only understand what they read and hear but also engage in fluent conversations and express their thoughts fully in English. PETS consists of a written test and an oral test. Candidates must pass both the written and oral tests at the same or adjacent levels in the same or consecutive tests to obtain the corresponding level National English Level Test Certificate issued by the National Education Examination Center. Therefore, the importance of the PETS oral test is self-evident.
The written test for PETS Level 3 lasts 120 minutes, and the oral test lasts 10 minutes (16 minutes for a three-person group). As the saying goes, "Ten minutes on stage require ten years of practice off stage." While the oral test is not a performance, thorough preparation before the test is essential to achieve good results. However, many candidates are unsure how to improve their oral skills or prepare for the oral test. Therefore, the author analyzes the Level 3 syllabus and past test questions, drawing on years of experience as a senior PETS oral examiner, to meticulously compile this book. The goal is to provide candidates with effective study methods and help them achieve better results in a short time. It is hoped that this book will be helpful to candidates aiming for high scores in the PETS oral test.
High Practicality: Based on the author's experience in English teaching and as an examiner, the book analyzes and summarizes the most common problems candidates face and the mistakes most likely to result in point deductions. Each issue is examined in detail, along with suggestions and solutions. From pre-test preparation to entering the exam room and through the three sections of the oral test, the book offers actionable advice.
High Targetedness: This book is structured and divided into chapters based on the topics specified in the PETS Level 3 oral test syllabus. Each section focuses on one (or occasionally two) topics, predicting the most likely questions and providing sample answers. Additionally, it includes vocabulary and background reading related to each topic, enabling candidates to fully understand the content and English expressions required for the test, allowing them to adapt flexibly to any questions asked.
High Test-Prep Effectiveness: To enhance candidates', the book presents most of its content in the form of a simulated exam setting. At the beginning of each section, it provides the questions candidates will be asked and the images they must describe, allowing for self-assessment and practice. Then, in the "Oral Test Scene," it offers a complete simulation of the oral test process, including the examiner's questions and the candidate's responses. This allows candidates to fully experience the test and gain insights and improvements from the provided answers.
High Practicality: The oral test questions in this book are closely related to daily life, study, and work, offering rich material for PETS candidates to practice their oral skills. They also help improve candidates' ability to communicate orally in real-life situations. Additionally, the content provided can serve as reference material for candidates preparing for the National College English Test, IELTS, or TOEFL.
The book is divided into two main parts:
Part 1: Introduction to the PETS Level 3 Oral Test and Test-Taking Strategies
This part provides a detailed explanation of the content, format, scoring, and test-taking skills for the oral test.
Part 2: Entering the PETS Level 3 Oral Test Simulation Exam
