Features: The main task of this book is to discuss the current extreme and aggressive nationalism, its nature, its historical rise, and its inherent future crises. At that time, I was very clear that this nationalism was particularly evident during and after World War I, but it was merely a form of nationalism advocated by different figures in different eras. In this book, the author intends to discuss the various major forms of nationalism that emerged in Europe between the two world wars to supplement my collection of essays on nationalism. Because I believe it is necessary to emphasize a fact: nationalism is plural rather than singular. When discussing the evolution of modern nationalism, my purpose is not to narrate the history of social and economic forces; these forces have somewhat blindly yet seemingly inevitably transformed small kingdoms and large empires into new political systems based on national principles. The author's purpose is also not to explain (except occasionally) the practical operational procedures of these military, literary, or educational institutions; these tools have recently instilled a sense of national patriotism in each nation. In other words, the author does not intend to view nationalism as a social process or a national movement in this book, although discussing it in this manner is certainly safe and legitimate. The author wants to view nationalism as an "ism," a collective of doctrines, a political philosophy, and at the same time discuss various nationalist thought factions that have significant popular influence. The author's focus is on the apostles of the "ism" rather than the disciples of the "ism."
