How to treat candidal vulvovaginitis

Patient's question:

Half a year ago, there was vaginal itching, sometimes with discharge resembling cottage cheese. Checked at Chongqing Women's Second Hospital.

Doctor's answer:

Your condition may be a fungal vaginal infection. Patients with fungal vaginal infection exhibit increased vaginal discharge, itching and burning sensation in the external genitalia and vagina, painful urination, redness and swelling around the external genitalia, and various epidermal changes. It can manifest as very shallow vesicular papules in clusters; it can also form eczema-like erosion, limited to the external genitalia or extending to the perineum, around the anus, and into the groin folds, resembling acute or subacute eczema completely. The labia and nearby clitoral mucosa may thicken, with redness and erosion on the skin surfaces in contact. In some cases, it can cause small white pustules, and in severe cases, it may lead to ulcers, pain in the external genitalia, and local lymph node enlargement. A solution of sodium bicarbonate can be used for external washing, which may be effective to some extent.
