Exploring Mysteries and Scientific Thinking
Life has existed on Earth for billions of years. Through long-term evolution, survival competition, and natural selection, humans have become a powerful force in the universe. We possess highly developed brains, which are the most powerful weapons in the biological world. Our brains have developed rationality unmatched by any other species and an unlimited capacity for exploring the world. Throughout our long journey of exploring the world, we have recognized, conquered, and overcome many obstacles with the power of reason. However, in the vast universe we rely on and the expansive world we inhabit, there are still many phenomena and problems that remain temporarily unexplained and unresolved. These phenomena and problems, for now, we will call them "mysteries."
Behind these "mysteries" lie the secrets of the universe, scientific knowledge, and the rich connotations of culture and art. Most importantly, there is the future of humanity. To explore the future of humanity, we cannot rely solely on boundless passion but must depend on scientific thinking methods.
Today, as history has progressed and human rationality has developed, scientific thinking has established its crucial role in human civilization. History has fully proven that it is the most reliable thinking method currently available to humanity. It relentlessly combats ignorance and superstition, shaping people's worldviews and values, and has thus given rise to a complete system of knowledge.
Scientific thinking methods require training and gradual accumulation through reading, learning, research, and practice. During this process, especially in childhood, immature thinking patterns such as curiosity-driven thinking often emerge. Curiosity is an innate trait of humans and a key motivation for exploring mysteries, but it can also lead us to easily believe unfounded rumors and strained theories. Therefore, in this book, for each "mystery," we select different perspectives and speculations, cite extensive evidence, and rely on scientific thinking methods to analyze and explore them.
In the two volumes, we adopt different classification methods: the Natural Volume is categorized by academic disciplines, while the Humanities Volume is organized by the issues explored.
The exploration, reflection, and research into each "mystery" have repeatedly advanced and deepened our understanding of the world. Perhaps in the future, humanity's inherent curiosity will drive our young readers to find the truth and patterns hidden behind the "mysteries" through learning and exploration, contributing to the future of humanity.
