"Tongjian Jishibemen" is a famous historical work written by Yuan Shu, a renowned historian of the Song Dynasty. According to the "Biography of Yuan Shu" in the "History of the Song Dynasty," "Shu often enjoyed reciting Sima Guang's 'Zizhi Tongjian,' finding it too vast, so he distinguished its events and connected them. He called it 'Tongjian Jishibemen.'" The publication of this work filled the gaps of the three traditional historical writing styles—thematic chronicles, biographical chronicles, and encyclopedic chronicles—and pioneered a new genre of historical writing. The book begins with "The Division of the Three States of Jin" and ends with "Emperor Shizong's Campaign Against Huai'an," covering a total of 42 volumes and summarizing the "rise and fall of dynasties" over 1,360 years. The entire book is a direct excerpt from "Zizhi Tongjian," making it an important shortcut for reading "Zizhi Tongjian."
