What are the reasons for frequent fetal movement at night

Patient's question:

I am very scared when this happens. I often have lower abdominal pain and don't know how to solve it, so I came here to consult. Could you please tell me what are the reasons for frequent fetal movement at night?

Doctor's answer:

Pregnant women should learn to monitor fetal movements and seek medical attention promptly if there are any abnormalities in fetal movement. Fetal movement can usually be detected around 18-20 weeks. Normal fetal movement should be at least 3-5 times within one hour, and 30-40 times or more within 12 hours.
Throughout the day, the frequency of fetal movement also varies. From 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., fetal movement is the least active, averaging about 3 times per hour. From 7-8 a.m., fetal movement slightly increases to an average of about 10 times per hour. From 9-11 a.m., fetal movement is the most frequent, averaging about 10-20 times per hour. Afterward, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the frequency fluctuates between 5-10 times per hour.
If fetal movement decreases or becomes excessively frequent, it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
