What is ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

Hello, I would like to ask one more question. Yesterday, I accompanied my girlfriend to the hospital for a prenatal check-up. During the routine vaginal discharge test, the results for trichomonas, Candida, G-bacteria, and BV were all negative. The ultrasound examination showed that the uterus was approximately 4.43.84.1 cm in size, in an anterior position, with normal uterine morphology, smooth capsule, uniform of the uterine wall, clear and centrally located uterine cavity line. The left ovary was 2.82.5 cm in size and located behind the uterus, while the right ovary was 2.72.1 cm in size. The uterus was of normal size and shape, and no gestational sac was observed in the uterine cavity. No masses were found in either adnexa. She hasn't had her period for 40 days. Could this be an ectopic pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, according to your ultrasound results, there are no obvious abnormalities noted in the uterus and bilateral adnexal regions. Currently, no gestational sac is visible in the uterine cavity. If you have missed your menstrual period, you can have your blood hCG level tested to determine if you are pregnant.
If pregnancy is ruled out, it would be considered menstrual irregularity. It is recommended to take Chinese herbal medicine for symptomatic regulation. The small amount of free pelvic fluid can be ignored for now.
