Why does white discharge come out from the vagina?

Patient's question:

I have an itchy lower abdomen, and my underwear is always yellow. What's going on? Why is there white discharge coming out of my vagina?

Doctor's answer:

Considering the symptoms may be caused by candidiasis, a vaginal discharge test can confirm the diagnosis. It is recommended to rinse the external genitalia and vagina with an alkaline solution, such as a 2% to 4% sodium bicarbonate solution. After rinsing, insert nystatin tablets or Daktarine suppositories into the vagina, and apply clotrimazole cream to the external genitalia. Oral treatment with an antifungal medication like fluconazole can also be used. Alternatively, local treatment with nystatin tablets or miconazole suppositories in the vagina is also effective. During treatment, sexual activity should be avoided, and hygiene should be maintained. Change and disinfect underwear daily.
