Features: In China's higher medical education, for a long time, only Peking Union Medical College had an eight-year medical education program. As a result, our school has lacked communication and exchange with domestic peer institutions in terms of teaching, which has affected the development of our teaching work. Under the guidance of the reform and opening-up policy of the Party Central Committee, China's higher medical education has made remarkable progress. Peer institutions across the country have successively established long-term medical education programs, making it possible and necessary for our school to engage in teaching exchanges with them. Currently, the most active field in China's higher medical education reform is experimental teaching. In response to changing societal demands for talent, the teaching philosophy, content, and methods of higher education need corresponding transformation and renewal. Physiology is a highly important and indispensable medical course that profoundly influences the growth of medical students. It has naturally become a focal point of teaching reform. We have published the book "Physiology Experiment and Research Training," systematically summarizing some of our experiences and insights in physiology experimental teaching since 1978. We aim to leverage the hands-on, practical nature of experimental courses to teach students skills and thinking methods that will be useful in their future studies and careers. The book also explores the philosophy, content, and methods of physiology experimental teaching in the new era, inviting peers to discuss how to improve the quality of long-term basic medical education. It serves as a starting point for further discussion. This textbook is intended for use in the physiology experimental teaching of eight-year medical students and graduate students in medical courses.
