What to do if you don't know your menstrual cycle?

Patient's question:

I am 14 years old. I had my last menstrual period, but since it was my first time, I didn't remember what day it was. I've forgotten which day it was, and it seems like quite some time has passed. I haven't had my period yet. What should I do if the doctor doesn't know when it will come?

Doctor's answer:

Girls reach a certain age and experience uterine bleeding every month, which is called menstruation. The first occurrence of menstruation is called menarche, which mostly happens between the ages of 13 and 14. In recent years, the age of menarche has shown a trend of occurring earlier, with some girls experiencing menstruation as early as 9 to 10 years old. After menarche, menstruation occurs at regular intervals, known as the "menstrual cycle." The number of days between the onset of one menstrual period and the next is generally 28 to 30 days. However, the duration varies from person to person, and it is considered normal to range from 20 to 40 days. Each menstrual period lasts for about 4 to 5 days of bleeding.
