Non-menstrual period bleeding black blood, what is the problem?

Patient's question:

Before the D&C surgery, there was often abnormal bleeding outside of menstruation, or leukorrhea with a reddish-brown color, similar to clotted blood. After the D&C surgery, which was more than three months ago, the leukorrhea turned black and reddish-brown in color. At first, it lasted nearly a month until the next menstrual period, and then it appeared again ten days after the period.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, non-menstrual vaginal bleeding can be of physiological or pathological origin: Generally, during the ovulation period, some women may experience ovulatory bleeding, also known as mid-cycle bleeding, which refers to light bleeding between two normal menstrual cycles. It may be accompanied by varying degrees of mild abdominal pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. However, if the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used.
However, irregular vaginal bleeding should also be considered as a possible sign of the following conditions: cervical polyps, acute vaginitis, severe cervical erosion, cervical cancer, submucosal uterine fibroids, etc. Additionally, sometimes due to the insertion of an intrauterine device, small blood streaks may be present in the vaginal discharge.
It is recommended that you visit a hospital for examination and consult a doctor to identify the cause, receive timely and appropriate treatment.
