Features: Since the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the concept of sustainable development has been gradually recognized and accepted by governments worldwide. The idea of sustainable development is primarily reflected in the "Agenda 21." China is one of the earliest countries to implement "Agenda 21," and adopting the sustainable development strategy and walking the path of sustainable development is both an inherent need and a natural choice for China's development from the present to the 21st century and beyond. The core idea of sustainable development is that healthy economic development should be based on ecological sustainability, social equity, and public active participation in decision-making regarding their own development. It seeks to meet the diverse needs of humanity, ensure personal development, while protecting resources and the ecological environment, and not posing a threat to the survival and development of future generations. Due to the broad scope of sustainable development, encompassing areas such as population, resources, environment, and development, as well as complex issues like intergenerational equity and balance, although traditional land-use planning theories and methods do touch upon certain aspects of sustainable development and the sustainable use of land resources, there is still no universally accepted theory or methodology as yet for preparing land sustainable-use plans. While incorporating the principles of sustainable development into planning is essential, research on the role of land-use planning in sustainable land use and the implementation of sustainable development strategies remains limited. Systematically studying planning theories and methods that support sustainable development and land sustainable use has become urgent and necessary. This book closely integrates the theory of land sustainable use with land-use planning, providing a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the theory and methods of land sustainable-use planning. It also conducts empirical research using Nanjing as a case study, which holds significant importance for advancing, developing, and enriching the theory and methods of land sustainable use and land-use planning in China. In terms of research content, the book stays abreast of international frontiers in land sustainable use and planning, particularly in addressing intergenerational equity in land-use planning through the method of resource transfer. This approach demonstrates academic creativity and offers valuable insights for guiding the preparation of China's national land-use master plans.
