Lumps on the outer side of the labia majora - what disease is it?

Patient's question:

A bump has grown on the outside of my labia majora, and it seems to be an subcutaneous cyst. Do I have to have it surgically removed?

Doctor's answer:

Subcutaneous cysts, as the name suggests, are definitely cystic tumors. They are usually soft to the touch and movable. Generally, if they affect appearance or require treatment, surgical excision is the common approach. Medications and injections are definitely ineffective, so don't waste money. Second, if you choose to leave it alone, just be careful not to frequently irritate it, such as touching or pressing, to avoid subcutaneous cysts becoming infected.
