How to treat candidal vaginitis

Patient's question:

Hello, I had a fungal vaginal infection a few weeks ago, but it has been cured! However, it has recurred today. There is some itching around the vaginal opening, and yellow discharge is coming out. The discharge is like small grains! What kind of medicine should I take for this?

Doctor's answer:

(1) Eliminate triggers: If diabetes is present, active treatment should be provided, and broad-spectrum antibiotics, estrogens, and corticosteroids should be discontinued promptly. Change underwear frequently, and boil used underwear, basins, and towels.
(2) Local medication: Clotrimazole suppositories, miconazole suppositories, and nystatin suppositories.
(3) Systemic medication (for recurrent cases or patients unable to receive vaginal medication): Fluconazole, itraconazole, and ketoconazole.
