Features: This volume includes A Study of the Pre-Qin School of Names, A History of Ancient Chinese Philosophy, A Long Chronicle of Medieval Chinese Thought, and A Short History of Medieval Chinese Thought. A Study of the Pre-Qin School of Names was a doctoral dissertation written in English by Hu Shi from September 1915 to April 1917 at Columbia University in the United States, titled A Study of the Development of Logical Method in Ancient China (translated by Hu Shi as The Evolution of Ancient Chinese Philosophical Method). A History of Ancient Chinese Philosophy was originally titled Outlines of the History of Chinese Philosophy, Volume 1. This book was initially a lecture manuscript for Hu Shi's course on Outlines of the History of Chinese Philosophy at Peking University, which was later mimeographed as a teaching manual within the university. A Long Chronicle of Medieval Chinese Thought preserves seven chapters of manuscript by Hu Shi, completed in 1930, and was mimeographed by China University in the same year. A Short History of Medieval Chinese Thought is a lecture outline for Hu Shi's course on Medieval Chinese Thought at the College of Liberal Arts, Peking University in 1931, originally titled An Outline of Medieval Chinese Thought.
