Features: Before the writing and design of this series of teaching materials, extensive and serious opinions were sought from teachers and students of many universities across the country, especially from teachers who had been using the "College Japanese" textbooks for a long time. At the same time, a serious discussion on the writing of the new textbooks was organized at the National University Japanese Teaching Symposium in 2000, while promoting and implementing the new syllabus. In summary, the participating teachers put forward the following hopes and suggestions for the new textbooks:
- Innovation should be made in cultivating Japanese communicative competence;
- The difficulty and workload should be controlled, not exceeding the intermediate level;
- The content should be contemporary, interesting, and practical;
- Considering the current situation of reduced foreign language teaching hours, the reading volume can be appropriately reduced;
- In terms of the structure of the textbooks, reading and writing should be separated from listening and speaking, with an increase in listening and speaking content;
- The textbooks should be closely aligned with the College Japanese Level 4 Examination while also catering to other types of Japanese exams;
- The definitions of words should be in Japanese to cultivate students' ability to think in Japanese;
- In terms of layout design, picture usage, printing, and paper quality, the textbooks should be of high standard and aesthetically pleasing, etc.
