Features: Pathophysiology is a fundamental theoretical course in medicine, with its primary task being to study the general patterns and mechanisms of disease occurrence and development, as well as the changes and principles in the functions and metabolism of diseased organisms, providing a theoretical basis for disease prevention and treatment. Pathophysiology is an interdisciplinary, comprehensive medical marginal discipline that also serves as a bridge between basic medicine and clinical medicine. Due to the vast variety of diseases, different diseases may exhibit similar changes and share common pathogenesis, while diseases affecting the same organ system can have unique alterations. Therefore, this textbook primarily includes the following three parts: ① General Principles, mainly discussing the general concepts of disease, etiology, and pathogenesis; ② Basic Pathological Processes, mainly addressing the common sets of functional, metabolic, and structural changes that may occur in diseases; ③ System-Specific Pathophysiology. This textbook is primarily intended for students of five-year to eight-year programs in medical and pharmaceutical institutions. Compared to similar textbooks, the chapters in this edition are designed to be more in-depth and comprehensive. Instructors may make appropriate selections or omissions when using this textbook. The sections with shaded backgrounds are for reference for students with extra time and interest, and the references at the end of each chapter are also provided for students seeking deeper study. Since disease is an abnormal form of life activity that arises when the body's homeostatic regulation is disrupted due to pathogenic damage under certain conditions, the body is a whole system influenced by various factors such as social environment and psychological elements. Changes are complex, diverse, and interconnected. Therefore, this textbook cannot cover all aspects of pathophysiology, only listing the fundamental content required for medical students from an educational perspective. It serves as an introductory "key," and more in-depth, comprehensive, and detailed knowledge of pathophysiology should be continuously explored and accumulated by students through medical practice after graduation.
