Can breastfeeding women eat pomegranates?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. Can I eat pomegranates during breastfeeding?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, you can eat pomegranates during breastfeeding, but you should not feed them directly to the baby. At eight months, it is better to feed the baby with liquid or semi-liquid food. Fruits, especially those with seeds or pits, need to be processed before feeding.
You can squeeze the pomegranate into juice and then feed it to the baby as juice to avoid the risk of pomegranate seeds getting stuck in the throat or airway, causing choking, aspiration, or suffocation. The same applies to other fruits—juices can be given to the baby, but be mindful that the baby's gastrointestinal function is not yet fully developed. Juices that are too acidic, too sweet, or too cold should not be given in large quantities to avoid irritating the baby's gastrointestinal tract, leading to reactions such as diarrhea, acid reflux, or vomiting.
