Which treatment is better for ovarian cysts

Patient's question:

Female, 27 years old, with an ovarian cyst. I have had an ovarian cyst for over two years. The cyst size is between 5.04 and 4.6 centimeters. How can it be treated effectively?

Doctor's answer:

Generally speaking, if the cyst diameter is less than 5 centimeters and there is no evidence suggesting a tumor, it is often a functional cyst. Close follow-up is recommended, meaning an examination every 2-3 months, and the follow-up interval can be adjusted based on the situation thereafter. If the cyst diameter is greater than 5 centimeters, it is more likely an ovarian tumor and generally requires surgical treatment. If accompanied by progressively worsening dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia, as well as painful nodules in the pelvis, endometriosis (also known as chocolate cysts) should be considered.
