Lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding - what's the cause

Patient's question:

Five days before menstruation. Numbness in hands and feet.

Doctor's answer:

Irregular vaginal bleeding can be of physiological or pathological origin. Generally, during the ovulation period, some women may experience ovulatory bleeding, also known as mid-cycle bleeding, which refers to light bleeding between two normal menstrual cycles. It may be accompanied by varying degrees of mild abdominal pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. However, if the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used.
However, irregular vaginal bleeding may also be a sign of the following conditions: cervical polyps, acute vaginitis, severe cervical erosion, cervical cancer, submucosal uterine fibroids, and others. Additionally, sometimes due to the insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD), small blood streaks may be present in the vaginal discharge.
It is recommended that you visit a hospital for examination and consult a doctor to identify the cause, receive timely and appropriate treatment.
