Features: This book is based on the 2006 postgraduate entrance exam English syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education. By analyzing postgraduate entrance exam papers and sample questions from the syllabus, it summarizes the examiners' thinking process and explores various problem-solving strategies for new question types. After three months of meticulous revision and refinement, this book was finally published. It embodies the passion of our creative team for postgraduate entrance exam English, and we hope it will be helpful to all candidates.
Each change in the exam syllabus brings significant psychological fluctuations to candidates. Some students feel lost and overwhelmed by the modifications. However, we can be as resilient as a general facing a battlefield and as adaptable as earth facing water. Many of my students are currently intensively reviewing the new question types, and their study approach is uniform: endless practice. While practice is undoubtedly valuable, relying solely on it without deep reflection on the new question types is what we call "the sea of questions strategy." This approach is neither efficient nor effective—it wastes time and fails to improve your skills. Therefore, before engaging in extensive practice, we must first conduct a fundamental and in-depth analysis of this new phenomenon.
Once you have mastered the correct problem-solving methods, you can then proceed with ample practice. This is the right way to learn new question types. It’s like practicing an iron head technique: if someone starts by directly hitting an extremely hard reinforced concrete wall with their head from the beginning, the result is inevitable—bloody and broken. However, if they first find a tree, wrap a thick stack of paper around its trunk, then cover the paper with a large sponge, and only then use their head to strike. By the time the sponge is damaged, their forehead may already be calloused. At this point, they can move on to hitting the paper, and finally the tree. Over time, their iron head technique will gradually improve.
As the old saying goes, "Sharpening the axe won’t waste time chopping wood." This is the very principle. After systematically explaining the problem-solving methods and techniques for new question types, this book also includes a large number of exercises for practice.
