Patient's question:
What are the symptoms of dysfunctional uterine bleeding? I've heard that it's one of the most common gynecological diseases, but I don't know what its symptoms are. I often have a prolonged menstrual period, and I don't know if that counts as a symptom. In the past half year, my periods sometimes last more than 10 days.Doctor's answer:
Functional Dysmenorrhea, abbreviated as FD, refers to abnormal uterine bleeding characterized by menstrual disorders, caused by dysfunction of the HPOU axis (i.e., the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian-uterine axis, abbreviated as HPOU), rather than by organic lesions in the reproductive tract.Recommendations: The symptoms of FD are characterized by irregular menstrual cycles and changes in the quantity and nature of uterine bleeding, which can be classified into the following types:
1. Oligomenorrhea – Irregular uterine bleeding with cycles ≥40 days, often accompanied by hypomenorrhea (reduced menstrual flow).
2. Polymenorrhea – Irregular uterine bleeding with cycles ≤21 days, often accompanied by menorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow).
3. Hypermenorrhea or Menorrhagia – Regular menstrual cycles with excessive menstrual flow and/or prolonged menstrual periods.
4. Metrorrhagia – Irregular menstrual cycles with normal or reduced menstrual flow.
5. Menomeorrhea – Irregular menstrual cycles with excessive menstrual flow and prolonged periods.
6. Hypomenorrhea – Regular menstrual cycles with reduced menstrual flow.
7. Intermenstrual Bleeding – Light uterine bleeding between two normal, regular menstrual periods, often accompanied by ovulation and ovulation pain.
