Features: The Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) organized subject experts and scholars in English education, based on the current teaching practices in primary and secondary schools. They referred to and drew inspiration from the essence of advanced teaching materials both domestically and internationally, evaluated the successes and setbacks of bilingual teaching pilot programs across regions, and collectively worked to introduce and adapt this series of bilingual textbooks, "LivingScience." This series emphasizes subject positioning and maintains accuracy in language difficulty and scientific content, showcasing distinct features:
First, the books are closely aligned with students' daily lives and learning realities, focusing on cultivating practical application skills to help students transition from the scientific world back to the real world.
Second, the content is rich and accessible, presented in an easy-to-understand manner. Most concepts in the textbooks are expressed using vivid and colloquial language, with minimal use of specialized terminology.
Third, it emphasizes stimulating students' inquiry abilities during the scientific learning process, equally valuing both conclusions and the process itself. Primary school textbooks integrate activities throughout, while middle school textbooks introduce scientific concepts and inquiry steps from the outset, guiding students to learn and apply science, thereby developing their observation, experimentation, critical thinking, and self-learning skills.
Fourth, it prioritizes breadth over depth in knowledge. The series primarily covers three major fields: life science, material science, and cosmic science. While systematically explaining the foundational knowledge of these three areas, it adopts a holistic course design with interdisciplinary integration.
Fifth, the layout is lively and visually engaging, with abundant high-quality illustrations—a key feature of the series. Especially in primary school textbooks, real-life photographs and cartoon images are combined to fully stimulate students' creativity and imagination, aligning with their cognitive development.
Sixth, the series is open-ended. It provides teachers and students with choices and creative space in learning content, activities, assignments, and assessments. Additionally, it guides students to utilize diverse resources available in schools, families, society, nature, the internet, and various media for inquiry-based learning. This allows students to subconsciously master English while studying science, ultimately achieving the goals of bilingual education.
