Features: "Introduction to Listening 2000" is divided into four volumes. It is designed for English majors in colleges and universities for listening courses, and can also be used by postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and scientific and technological personnel with high English proficiency. "Introduction to Listening 2000" is an extension of "Introduction to Listening." It still adheres to the principle of emphasizing both content and listening skills, focusing on the authenticity and typicality of the selected materials, and consistently prioritizing the development of students' listening comprehension and thinking abilities. "Introduction to Listening 2000" goes beyond "Introduction to Listening." It adopts brand-new listening materials and pays more attention to the overall thematic layout of the four volumes. With a human-centered approach, it revolves around students as the main subject, striving to reflect the intrinsic relationship between the content learned at each stage and human development, guiding students to understand the rapidly changing objective world and solidly develop themselves. In terms of listening skills, "Introduction to Listening 2000" continues to emphasize the training of various micro-skills and comprehensive skills, and attempts to analyze the essence of listening from a theoretical perspective in the form of short lectures, highlighting key points to help students overcome potential psychological issues and listening barriers. "Language Appreciation and Language Learning" is another creative feature of "Introduction to Listening 2000." This section of the textbook appropriately summarizes English idioms or other elegant language expressions from relevant chapters to demonstrate learning methods, encourage knowledge accumulation, and allow students to further appreciate the beauty and joy in the process of English listening learning. Due to the joint efforts of the Foreign Language Editing Office, Audiovisual Department, and related design and art editors of East China Normal University Press, the appearance, layout, illustrations, colors, and recordings of "Introduction to Listening 2000" are all refreshingly new. "Introduction to Listening 2000" has also received regular support and assistance from many colleagues in the Foreign Language College of East China Normal University, including the Language Laboratory, Reference Room, Office, and the English Department. This book is the fourth volume, consisting of twelve units. The chapter structure and purpose of each unit are basically the same as the first three volumes. However, the principles of content selection reflect different focuses: the first volume focuses on outlining some macro changes and characteristics of contemporary society; the content of the second volume primarily revolves around the healthy growth of students in terms of their profession, temperament, and physique; the third volume draws students' attention to the world, including news reports and achievements introductions in various fields such as international politics, economy, science and technology, and transportation; while the fourth volume, as the final volume of the entire series, finally focuses on practical aspects such as society, education, work, and family, aiming to guide students to face the future and reflect on both the objective and subjective worlds. Professor Glen Chesnut reviewed the entire manuscript of the fourth volume. Friends who participated in the recording include Paul Ryan, Melody Bearden, Adam MacMahon, and others. During the writing process, we also referred to some books and materials from domestic and foreign sources, and we express our sincere gratitude here. The reference bibliography is detailed in the Acknowledgements.
