Patient's question:
Since the beginning of this month, I've been experiencing some lower abdominal pain every time I have sex with my husband. Sometimes, I also have vaginal itching. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was bacterial vaginosis. Could you please tell me what are the symptoms that are not associated with bacterial vaginosis?Doctor's answer:
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by a mixed infection of Gardnerella vaginalis and anaerobic bacteria. The symptoms of bacterial vaginosis mainly include: an increase in the amount of vaginal discharge, a foul-smelling discharge, often accompanied by a fishy odor, vaginal burning and pain, external genital itching, and can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, and recurrent lower abdominal pain, as well as a sense of heaviness and fullness in the lumbar-sacral region. This condition can be transmitted through sexual contact. Therefore, once it is detected, sexual activity must be strictly prohibited.
