What should I do about PCOS?

Patient's question:

The doctor initially diagnosed me with polycystic ovary syndrome and prescribed Dydrogesterone tablets. After taking the Dydrogesterone tablets for a week, how long does it usually take for my period to return? History and effectiveness of previous treatment: None

Doctor's answer:

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), also known as polycystic ovary disease, is a condition whose cause remains unclear to this day. Currently, the medical community believes that the disease is primarily related to endocrine dysfunction. It is often triggered by factors such as mental stress, harmful medications, or other diseases, leading to endocrine disorders in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. This results in an imbalance in the ratio of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) secreted by the pituitary gland. Due to the increase in FSH and the continuous rise in LH, the follicles in the ovaries are unable to grow and mature properly, preventing menopause, and ultimately forming cystic follicles, which lead to the development of polycystic ovaries.
