Does tubal hydrops require surgery?

Patient's question:

Hydrosalpinx, currently taking medication. What kind of help is needed: Is hydrosalpinx the complete blockage of the entire opening of the fallopian tube? Is surgery required?

Doctor's answer:

Hydrosalpinx occurs after tubal inflammation or due to adhesions causing self-locking, where the secretory fluid of the mucosal cells accumulates within the lumen. Alternatively, it may result from recurrent tubal inflammation leading to adhesions at the isthmus and fimbriae, causing blockage and forming tubal abscess. When the pus cells within the lumen are digested, a watery liquid is ultimately obtained. If bilateral hydrosalpinx is present, surgical treatment is recommended, such as tubal ostomy or tubal-ovarian adhesiolysis performed laparoscopically.
