This painted collection has been widely cherished by poets, calligraphers, painters, and people from all walks of life throughout the ages. It has been disseminated extensively, reprinted multiple times, and even spread to Japan. This book takes the poems selected in Tang Shi Hua Pu as its subject, supplemented with concise annotations and brief evaluations of their artistic features to assist readers in appreciating these works.
The publication of Tang Shi Hua Pu holds significant meaning for the introduction and promotion of Tang poetry. Particularly, the involvement of renowned calligraphers and painters in its creation made a substantial contribution to promoting and upholding the fine tradition of integrating poetry, calligraphy, and painting. However, since its publication, only a few reference works like Xie Wei’s A Study of Chinese Painting Literature have included entries to introduce it. No one has yet conducted in-depth research on the literary value and issues of the book, nor has a detailed annotated edition been published. Readers with only a middle school education may still find it challenging to read.
For this reason, the author was commissioned by Qilu Book Society to compile and annotate this Tang Shi Hua Pu Shu Jie (Commentary and Explanation of Tang Shi Hua Pu) as a gift to readers. This book takes the poems selected in Tang Shi Hua Pu as its subject, supplemented with concise annotations and brief evaluations of their artistic features to assist readers in appreciating these works.
