What is endometriosis?

Patient's question:

I used to frequently experience menstrual cramps, and then I also had stomach pain again. So, I went to the veterinary hospital for a diagnosis. The professionals diagnosed me with endometriosis. However, after giving birth to a baby, this condition was relieved. I would like to ask what exactly endometriosis means?

Doctor's answer:

Endometriosis may be caused by the improper flow of menstrual blood, where fragments of the endometrium travel through the fallopian tubes to other organs with menstrual blood. Although these endometrial fragments shed, they do not completely lose their vitality, so when they reach other organs, they can grow on them while also changing according to hormonal fluctuations. When the endometrium sheds or peels, due to the inability to receive normal blood supply, it accumulates locally, forming endometriosis nodules or cysts. The main symptoms of endometriosis are pain during menstruation, sexual pain, and infertility. It can be treated with medication or by undergoing laparoscopic surgery at a hospital. This type of surgery has minimal trauma and a relatively significant effect.
