Patient's question:
Today I went to the hospital for a thorough examination. The doctor said I have cervical inflammation. So, what exactly is cervical inflammation?Doctor's answer:
Cervicitis is a relatively common inflammatory condition in gynecological clinical diagnosis. Cervicitis refers to a series of inflammatory manifestations that occur due to the infection of pathogens in the vaginal part of the cervix and the mucous membrane of the cervical canal, as identified in clinical diagnosis. It is primarily divided into acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis. Acute cervicitis is mostly caused by gonococcal infection. Clinically, it presents with purulent leukorrhea, redness and swelling of the cervix, and urinary symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and dysuria. Chronic cervicitis is characterized by cervical hypertrophy, cervical polyps, and Nabothian cysts. Due to the single-layered columnar epithelium of the cervical canal mucous membrane, its resistance to infection is poor, making it prone to infection. In clinical practice, cervicitis is commonly seen as acute cervical canal mucositis.
