Can you get pregnant during abnormal leukorrhea?

Patient's question:

I've been divorced for several years and haven't been pregnant yet. Recently, I've been experiencing headaches, weakness in my limbs, abdominal swelling, discomfort in the lower body, excessive white discharge with a bad odor and a yellowish color. The doctor said it's abnormal white discharge and needs treatment. But my husband wants a child again. I want to ask if it's possible to get pregnant with abnormal white discharge?

Doctor's answer:

After pregnancy, estrogen levels in the body increase as the pregnancy progresses. Estrogen enhances the secretion of cervical glandular and endometrial glandular cells, increasing the amount of vaginal mucus. A pregnant woman's leukorrhea is more abundant than before pregnancy, appearing milky white with no odor, like egg white. This is a normal phenomenon. If the color, amount, and quality of leukorrhea change abnormally again, it is called abnormal leukorrhea. If a pregnant woman has abnormal leukorrhea, she should seek medical attention promptly and avoid self-medication. Abnormal leukorrhea in women is usually closely related to vaginal infections or gynecological diseases. If purulent leukorrhea has an odor and accompanied by vulvar itching, it is typically a symptom of vaginitis. If bloody leukorrhea is common, it is mainly due to cervical or uterine inflammation. All these pathological changes can interfere with early pregnancy in women. It is not recommended to consider early pregnancy during abnormal leukorrhea.
