Can inverted nipples be pulled out?

Patient's question:

Recently, I just had a baby. I originally wanted to breastfeed, but I have inverted nipples and I'm very anxious, not knowing what to do. I urgently want to know if inverted nipples can be pulled out.

Doctor's answer:

It is not recommended to use a breast pump to enhance the nipples, as the force is too strong and can easily hit the breasts, leading to uterine contractions, which may then cause restlessness in fetal movement or premature labor. You can gently lift the nipples with your hands while showering every day, doing it tens or twenty times each day. Be patient and persistent with this, and by the time of delivery, the condition of inverted nipples can be significantly improved. Moreover, if the nipples are still slightly concave during delivery, you can then use a breast pump to stretch the nipples. You can manually express the nipples or use negative pressure suction to make the weak nipples more prominent on the surface. It is recommended to have a thorough examination at the hospital or observe the images carefully to confirm the condition. For mild nipple inversion, a nipple corrector can be used for suction correction.
