Patient's question:
Hello!I just found out I have candidiasis and have been taking fluconazole, soda solution for rinsing, and Daktarin suppositories as prescribed by my doctor. This is the fourth day of medication. I heard this condition is prone to recurrence, so I want to know how to prevent it from coming back and what precautions to take. Should my underwear and pants be disinfected every day? Should my husband also be treated, and how should he be treated? Thank you!
Doctor's answer:
Candidiasis, also known as vaginal yeast infection, is primarily caused by Candida albicans. The main symptoms include vaginal mucosal congestion, erosion, and a white membrane coating the surface. The discharge is white or yellowish, resembling curd, accompanied by itching or mild burning sensation. During the acute phase, the discharge increases, becoming thick and white or curd-like.Local medications, such as miconazole suppositories (200mg per night for 7 days) or clotrimazole suppositories (150mg per night for 7 days), can be used. Before local medication, a 2%-4% sodium bicarbonate solution may be used to rinse the vagina.
Systemic medications include fluconazole (150mg as a single dose) or ketoconazole (200-400mg per dose, taken orally for 5 days). The specific treatment should be determined based on your symptoms, physical examination, and relevant auxiliary tests. Additionally, when experiencing external genital itching, avoid hot water bathing, change and wash underwear frequently, and maintain cleanliness and dryness of the external genital area. Used underwear should be boiled.
