A Study of Tang Poetry reflects Wen Yiduo's research on Tang poetry. The book covers various aspects, including literary forms, renowned poets, poet chronologies, and translations of poetry, hence the title Miscellaneous Discussions. He offers unique and profound insights and analyses on the superiority and inferiority of encyclopedic works and poetry, the decline and redemption of court poetry, the organization and verification of chronologies, and especially the poetic achievements of some famous Tang poets such as the "Four Masters of Early Tang," Meng Haoran, Jia Dao,, Du Fu, and Li Bai. The arguments are incisive, and the quoted poetry is representative. The language is vivid and imaginative, combining knowledge and entertainment, making it engaging and enjoyable to read.
