Today, the vast array of books overwhelms people, especially young readers, making it difficult for children to choose. Children are the future and hope of the country. To help them learn more while having fun, we have especially written this book, "Exploring the Mysteries of the Universe," for teenagers. We believe children will benefit greatly from it.
The cosmic space is the fourth realm of human activity after the continents, oceans, and atmosphere. The vast and boundless universe has always been a strange world for humanity, filled with endless charm. No one knows where it came from or where it is heading, and how many enormous secrets it hides? From Copernicus's theory of planetary motion to Newton's law of universal gravitation, from the invention of Chinese telescopes to today's spacecraft visits, humanity has been exploring the universe. What exactly is the universe? The ancients said, "The four directions above and below make up the universe; the past and future make up the cosmos." From a physics perspective, the four directions above and below are space, a three-dimensional concept, while the past and future are time, a one-dimensional concept. Therefore, "universe" together refers to a four-dimensional space. It is clear that the ancients' definition of the universe was rooted in a simple materialist and dialectical viewpoint. According to modern views, the universe refers to the vast space and all the celestial bodies and diffuse matter within it. Since the universe is in constant motion and development, that is, everything within human reach and the matter that still exists but has not yet been seen is part of the universe. The more humanity reveals the mysteries of the universe, the more it discovers its unfathomable depth.
Humanity's understanding of the universe began with Earth. Earth is just an ordinary member of the solar system, orbiting the sun along with the other eight planets day and night. Together with satellites, comets, asteroids, and meteors, they form the solar system. From the solar system, the exploration extends to the Milky Way, which includes over 100 billion stars and spans a diameter of 100,000 light-years in cosmic space. However, the Milky Way is not the end of space. Beyond it, there are many "extragalactic systems." Astronomers have discovered over a billion extragalactic systems, each containing hundreds of millions, billions, or even trillions of stars, along with vast nebulae and interstellar matter. All extragalactic systems together form an even larger supercluster. Currently, through radio telescopes and space exploration, scientists have observed a star-like object about 20 billion light-years away from Earth, called a "quasar." This discovery has further expanded human vision to the deep cosmos of 20 billion light-years.
To help teenagers gain a comprehensive understanding of the universe, this book explores the universe from five major aspects: the universe itself, the solar system, Earth, the moon, and the dazzling starry sky. The text is easy to understand and explained in a simple yet profound manner, guiding young readers on a mysterious journey through the universe. The book combines knowledge and fun, with a rigorous and standardized structure, making it an excellent science popularization book for teenagers. Additionally, alongside the knowledge presented, there are thousands of colorful illustrations that are highly visually appealing.
