Features: International chess is one of the world's oldest and most widely conducted sports. The International Chess Federation's Education Committee has summarized the benefits of introducing chess into basic education as follows:
1. Fully enhances the learner's logical thinking ability. At this stage of cognitive development, learners can learn to handle problems through concrete thinking (9-11 years old) and abstract thinking (11-12 years old).
2. Helps in acquiring all basic cognitive methods and consolidating other cognitive methods.
3. Aids in understanding and mastering classification and numerical concepts.
4. Enables categorization of pieces based on their significance and the combination of related factors according to the patterns of their movement.
5. Can perform basic mathematical operations.
6. Begins to form preliminary concepts of time and space.
7. Recognizes concepts related to straight lines, horizontal lines, and distance.
8. Understands three-dimensional space and its relationships.
9. Helps improve attention and discipline.
10. Aids in enhancing moral self-discipline, promoting mental development, i.e., avoiding extreme behavior and learning to respect others.
This textbook is divided into 6 units, with a total of 40 lessons. One lesson is taught each Monday, twice a week, with each session lasting 2 hours, making a total of 80 hours. Each lesson is divided into three parts: teaching requirements, teaching content, and homework.
