Is a hysterectomy necessary for cervical polyps?

Patient's question:

Recently, during a health check-up, I was found to have cervical polyps. There are no symptoms, the doctor recommended that I have surgery, but I haven't divorced or become pregnant yet! I don't know if it will affect fertility, and I am very anxious now.

Doctor's answer:

Most patients with cervical polyps do not have obvious clinical symptoms. Even if there is inflammation, it is usually mild, and vaginal bleeding is often minimal. Therefore, cervical polyps are easily overlooked by women, posing significant harm to health. Cervical polyps may become cancerous, so timely treatment is recommended. Cervical polyps are a result of chronic inflammation, with potential triggers including sexual activity and repeated inflammatory stimulation, leading to recurrent infections or an increase in bloody discharge, causing the polyp to shrink. If left untreated, cervical polyps may gradually shrink and may obstruct the cervical opening, potentially causing female infertility.
