Features: Xiong Zhaozheng is a renowned contemporary Chinese writer and poet. Born on December 12, 1953, in Wenquan Town, Ying County, Hubei Province, he served in the military and worked in the countryside. At the age of 22, he became a creative guidance officer at Ying County Cultural Center. In 1981, he was transferred to the Hubei Writers' Association as a professional writer and has remained there ever since. During this period, he served as the deputy editor of Yangtze River Literature from 1984 to 1986 and as vice president of the Hubei Writers' Association from 1985 to 1989. His political lyrical poem, "Raise Your Hands Like a Forest, Stop!" (Qing jufa linze yi ge shou, zhi!) written in 1979, won the First National Excellent New Poetry Award for Young and Middle-aged Writers from 1979 to 1980. He has published five poetry collections, two prose collections, and two reportage collections. His poetry and prose have received numerous awards. Since 1993, after ten years of dedicated writing, he completed the four-volume historical novel Zhang Juzheng, which was widely praised by readers both at home and abroad and was hailed by critics as an important achievement in contemporary Chinese long. The book went on to win the Hubei Provincial Government Book Award, the First Yao Xueyin Long-Volume Historical Novel Award, and the Hubei Provincial Sixth Qu Yuan Literary Award, among other honors. In April 2005, it was awarded the Sixth Mao Dun Literature Prize. This book selects over 100 new poems from my works created between 1979 and 1999 over the span of two decades.
