Patient's question:
I have irregular periods, heavy flow, strong bloody smell, many blood clots, and sticky, pale yellow discharge with a fishy odor. It's said I have uterine fibroids. Can uterine fibroids get infected?Doctor's answer:
The uterine fibroids in women are not contagious. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors formed by the fibrosis of smooth muscle fibers in the uterus. Common symptoms include uterine bleeding, pain, abdominal masses, pressure symptoms on adjacent organs, increased leukorrhea, anemia, and cardiac dysfunction. A small portion of patients show no symptoms and are often discovered to have uterine fibroids during gynecological population screening. Uterine fibroids are the most common benign gynecological tumors, commonly occurring in women aged 30-50. They can be classified into intramural, subserosal, submucosal, and intraligamentous fibroids based on the location of the fibroids within the uterine wall.
