Features: When mentioning cultural figures from the last century, most references are to men; dredging up modern cultural figures yields a list of male names; compiling modern academic classics rarely includes women. Moved by this situation, I decided to dredge up the female cultural figures of the last century. The first step in this dredging is to write short biographies of the hundred most notable women. The four female cultural figures in this book are part of this project. The subjects of the biographies in this book are: Eileen Chang, Lin Huiyin, Lu Xiaoman, and Jiang Bivie. Eileen Chang is one of the greatest novelists in the history of Chinese literature, a female writer with no predecessors before her and no successors after her; Lin Huiyin is a female prodigy in the cultural revival movement, whose talents and achievements in various fields are unmatched by any woman; Lu Xiaoman represents a type of woman who transitioned from a feudal society to modern society. Their rebellious spirit against tradition and their confusion about the future constitute their spiritual temperament; Jiang Bivie is a brave "important" figure who dared to challenge the feudal ethical traditions. They made unique contributions in the women's liberation movement, and their courage to "be themselves" extends to the present day. This is why so many people admire and are amazed by their lives and achievements.
