Features: The "Outline for the English Examination of Master's Degree Application by Candidates" underwent significant adjustments in 2004. Compared to 2003, the outline featured four major changes: 1. The identification and correction section of Paper 2 was moved to Paper 1, and it only involved identifying errors, not correcting them. The corresponding score was adjusted from 1 point per question to 0.5 points per question, making this section slightly easier. 2. The total score for Paper 1 remained 65 points. Since the identification and correction section accounted for 5 points, the scores for reading and comprehensive filling were slightly reduced in 2004. The exam time for Paper 1 was also adjusted from 95 minutes to 90 minutes. Candidates must complete Paper 1 before moving on to Paper 2, which is worth 35 points, and the total score remains 100 points. For the score, candidates are still required to achieve at least 18 points in Paper 2 to pass. Otherwise, regardless of how well they perform in Paper 1, they will be considered. Therefore, the overall impression is that Paper 1 was not significantly adjusted, while Paper 2 raised the requirements for candidates. 3. The translation section of Paper 2 includes both English-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-English translations, whereas in 2003, it was only English-to-Chinese. The total score was also adjusted from 10 points to 100-120 words. This section became more difficult, and the 2004 "Outline for the Examination" explicitly required "accurate meaning and fluent language" in the translation, whereas in 2003, the requirement was "faithfulness to the original text with basic correctness in expression." 4. The essay section of Paper 2 increased the word count by 50 words. In 2003, it required over 100 words, while in 2004, it required over 150 words. To help students and the general public taking the English examination for Master's degree application better understand and master the exam outline, prepare effectively in a short period, and improve their skills, we have organized university experts and teachers with years of experience in English teaching and training for graduate programs to compile this series of "English Examination Books for Master's Degree Application by Candidates." The series is divided into two volumes. This volume, based on the new outline, includes several sets of simulated test questions with English-to-Chinese translation exercises. It systematically reviews the key knowledge points of various question types covered in the exam and provides practical guidance and suggestions on how to answer the questions effectively.
