What are the hazards of ectopic pregnancy

Patient's question:

Patient Age: I had my period on the 1st and had sex with my boyfriend on the 18th but didn't use protection. This month, my period started on the 30th, and my cycle is usually 28 days, very regular. On the 29th, I took a pregnancy test, and it was negative within 5 minutes, but a few hours later, it showed a faint, weak positive. On the 30th, the first day of my period, there was a lot of dark brown blood and accompanied by intermittent abdominal pain. Today, the blood flow hasn't been as heavy as yesterday. Is this ectopic pregnancy? I usually have a 4-day period, and today I changed 4 pads during the day, but the blood on the pads seemed less than yesterday. Should I be concerned about ectopic pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

It will increase the probability of recurrent ectopic pregnancy. If diagnosis is not made in time or treatment is delayed, rupture or miscarriage may occur, which can induce intra-abdominal hemorrhage, leading to syncope, shock, and increasing the risks of blood transfusion, infection, etc. In severe cases, it may even result in the patient's death.
For pregnant women who have had an intrauterine device (IUD) placed, undergone tubal recanalization surgery, or have a history of pelvic inflammatory disease, special attention should be paid. Monitor the menstrual cycle closely, pay attention to irregular vaginal bleeding, and seek medical attention promptly if any abnormalities occur.
