How to treat chronic cervical inflammation

Patient's question:

Because of chronic cervical inflammation, the doctor prescribed compound metronidazole vaginal suppositories. I have used 13 of them. Due to irregular menstruation, I took an early pregnancy test last week and it was negative. Today, I took another test and found out I'm pregnant. Can this baby be?

Doctor's answer:

When taking medication while aware of pregnancy, the early stages of pregnancy are a critical period for fetal growth and development, and medication can easily interfere with the fetus. However, this is a local medication, which causes much less interference. It is recommended to undergo thorough ultrasound examinations in the later stages to rule out any issues. Metronidazole can have some interference on the fetus, but it is not 100%. It is still advisable to wait and see for now. Maintain a light diet and avoid spicy foods.
