Features: China has a long history of pig farming. As early as the Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC), people commonly captured wild boars for domestication and breeding. Throughout the long history of feudal society, pig farming became an important subsidiary occupation for farmers, and the method shifted from grazing to stall-feeding. Since the founding of New China, the Party and government have placed great emphasis on pig farming production, adopting a series of policies and measures to promote the development of the industry. In 1952, the national pig inventory reached 89.765 million heads, making China the world's largest pig-producing country. With the development of compound feed, disease prevention and control technology, environmental control, as well as mechanization and automation, large-scale pig farms began to be established across the country in the early 1960s. In the 1980s, the national mechanized pig farming association was established, accelerating the transition from traditional to modern pig farming. By the end of 2002, the national pig inventory stood at 47.046 million heads, with 62.863 million heads marketed, and pork production reached 47.459 million tons. After joining the WTO, pig farming production now faces both domestic and international markets. How to improve production management and produce high-quality products that meet market demand is a key issue for today's pig farmers. "Introduction to Scientific Pig Farming" comprehensively discusses the entire process of pig farming production based on domestic and international practices and the research findings of some scientific workers. It is hoped that this book will be helpful to pig farming operators. At the same time, readers are welcome to point out any shortcomings.
