Features: The planning, conception, and editorial approach of the "Folk Culture Series of the Chinese Nation" are largely based on the following considerations: First, "making a big deal out of a small issue." Compared to some folkloristic works that lack a macro perspective and are overly general, the series' topics primarily highlight the characteristic of "making a small issue substantial," meaning in-depth empirical discussions are conducted around specific issues. The purpose is to promote and advance the academic style of rigorous empirical folkloristics, thereby elevating the professional standards of Chinese folkloristic research. Second, advocating "thematic research." The planners, designers, and authors of the series generally tend to believe that, compared to general overviews and the simple enumeration and of folkloristic phenomena, the academic development of Chinese folkloristics should gradually progress to the new stages of "thematic research" and "regional research." Thematic research refers to mobilizing all possible methods and materials to conduct comprehensive, systematic, and in-depth investigations into certain folkloristic phenomena, thereby thoroughly deepening researchers' understanding of specific or types of folkloristic phenomena. Regional research, on the other hand, involves treating the folk traditions and ethnic lifestyles of a specific region as a whole and conducting all-around field investigations, detailed documentation, and analytical research. Clearly, the maturity and accumulation of "thematic folkloristics" and "regional folkloristics" that arise separately from thematic and regional folkloristic research may not only be an unavoidable important stage in the academic development of Chinese folkloristics but also an indispensable basic category in the expression of its academic achievements.
